BRETT HANSON — “THE TECHNICIAN”

Drums & Vocals | Black Lysted

Brett Hanson is the drummer and backing vocalist of Black Lysted. Every band has someone who keeps the machine running. In Black Lysted, that’s Brett Hanson, The Technician.

Where he’s been. Brett is an Edmonton, Alberta musician who earned his place the hard way. He played more than a hundred gigs before Black Lysted existed. He’s an expert drummer who also sings and plays guitar and bass, and his range runs from rock and country to southern rock, metal, punk and Americana. That range shows up in the pocket he plays. When Rod Black, former frontman of Billboard-charting Jet Black Stare, launched Black Lysted, Brett took the drum throne and stepped up on vocals. He’s on the band’s debut single “Redline” (2024, Amalien Records / Virgin Music Group), a track dedicated to men’s mental health.

Where he is now. Lineups changed. Brett didn’t. Rod and Brett are the only two players who appear in every Black Lysted lineup the band has published. That runs through “Redline,” “Words Are Like Weapons,” and “Dangerous,” the band’s first release on Cranked Up Records in August 2026. He’s the steady pulse under Black Lysted’s sound: driving guitars, anthemic hooks, and lyrics that cut deep.

Where he’s going. Black Lysted closes out 2026 with U.S. dates, and the label has announced a national tour and festival run for 2027. For Brett, the next chapter is bigger stages and louder rooms, built on the same foundation.
